The
Beule or entrance to the Acropolis.
After the attack of the Herulians (267 AD), a wall was
constructed on the western face of the Acropolis hill to
strengthen its fortifications. Only one of two entrances
still exists. The Beule Gate is named after the French archaeologist
who excavated the area in 1852.
