Themistocles
was responsible for the new wall, the Themistocleian Wall, which
was build in 479-478 BC. Materials from buildings destroyed
by the Persians were used to build this wall which fortifies
the northern face of the hill. Parts of columns and other architectural
features can still be seen on the outer side of the wall.
