The so called Olive tree or Troilus pediment dates back to the
second quarter of the 6th century BC and is named for an olive
tree which is in the background of the scene. This piece comes
from an unknown building dating to the archaic period of the
Acropolis and it is thought that the central image was that
of a spring. Not all figures have survived. The female figure
is carrying a water jug, a fact which has led some to conclude
that this scene depicts the daughters of Cecrops. - Acropolis
