The
statue of Ioannis Makrigiannis (1797-1864), known as General
Makrigiannis on Dionysiou Areopagitou Street. He was one of
the most important fighters in the Greek War of Independence
in 1821. He took part in many military operations against the
Ottomans and played an important role defending the Acropolis
against them.
