Agios Nikolaos (Saint
Nikolas)
Nikolaos Thon was a financial expert and advisor to King George
I. In 1880 he built his mansion on the corner of Alexandras and
Kifissias avenues to a design of the architect Ernst Ziller. The
same architect also designed the small church there named after
its donor and dedicated to Saint Nikolas.
During
the fighting that followed the liberation of Athens in December
1944, the mansion was looted and destroyed.
