Museum of the Shadow Theatre
The Museum of Shadow Theatre was founded in 1965 by Eugene Spatharis
and includes his own and his father's collections dating from
1947. There are also Greek and foreign-language books on shadow
and puppet theatre as well as posters, programs and press cuttings.
The
museum houses a retrospective exhibition of figures and accessories
of Greek shadow theatre from 1860 to the present. The museum's
aim is to develop its educational character, that is, to make
the subject more widely known to the general public and to inform
the younger generation about the various phases and historical
development of this art of Greek traditional and folk theatre.
