The Apotheosis of Hercules, part of a limestone pediment
of a small building, dates back to ca. 580 BC. It depicts the
reception of Hercules as a hero by the Olympian gods. On the
left, Zeus is shown sitting on his throne, his face turned so
that he is looking over his shoulder. His wife, Hera, is portrayedf
acing the front, a daring pose for that time. Hercules is pictured
moving towards the father of the gods and is followed by Hermes.
